I would be using it for.well to be honest, I'm not 100% certain, exploration of the OSX ecosystem I suppose, open to suggestions (I am a photographer, but not a videographer) In addition, anything to watch out for on these old Macs, design defects, overheating, etc. What I am not familiar with, is OSX and how the latest release (or last supported? Dunno if these Mac Pros are considered abandoned when it comes to OS updates) fairs on the Mac Pro.Īny advice from the Mac crew would be appreciated. I realize it's an Ivy Bridge Xeon, but my main workstation (a Dell Precision T7610) is a pair of Ivy Bridge Xeons, so I'm okay with the speeds/performance, mainly because Im not a gamer.
Having said that, I see the trash can Mac Pros have dropped rather markedly on eBay. I am well versed in Windows and Linux (specifically Debian-based Distros) but my last Mac was a G5 iMac which I had installed Ubuntu on and prior to that, any long-term Mac usage was in the G4 OS8/9 days. Preface: I swore there was a dedicated forum for Mac stuff, but I can't find it.
